Job costing only works if every expense lands on the right job. The hard part has always been the small stuff — a $40 run to the supply house, a tank of gas, a box of screws — that never makes it into the books. Tallio fixes that by letting you tag each receipt to a job the moment you capture it, so the job-costing in QuickBooks reflects what the job actually cost.
Assign every receipt to a job
- Before the snap:set the active-job pill at the top of the Scan screen when you pull into the supplier's lot. Everything you capture inherits that job.
- After the snap: tap the job field on the receipt in your Inbox and type a few letters of the job name.
- In bulk:select a full day's receipts in the Inbox and assign them to one job at once.
Keep materials, tax, and mileage separate
Tallio reads the line items and splits out the tax, so material costs, GST/HST, and totals each land where they should. Mileage is tracked separately at the CRA per-kilometre rate and rolled up by job, so vehicle costs don't get buried in a lump-sum expense.
See job costs in QuickBooks
Jobs map to QuickBooks Projects or Classes depending on your plan. Because every receipt is already tagged, the job-costing and profitability reports in QuickBooks reflect real costs the moment the receipts sync — no spreadsheet, no month-end re-keying. See How to send receipts to QuickBooks for the sync setup.
FAQ
How do I assign an expense to a specific job?
Set the active-job pill before you scan and every photo inherits that job, or tap the job field on a receipt in your Inbox afterward. You can also bulk-assign a job to several receipts at once.
How do I track job costs in QuickBooks?
Jobs map to QuickBooks Projects or Classes, and because each receipt is already assigned to a job, the job-costing reports in QuickBooks reflect real material and expense costs without anyone re-keying at month-end.
Can I track mileage by job?
Yes. Tallio tracks trips and calculates deductible mileage at the CRA per-kilometre rate, rolled up by job alongside your receipts.
